Sloppy Joes

Now, I know there's nothing special about sloppy joes, but it's a regular on our menu for a couple of reasons. You can't beat how easy it is to make. I can have dinner on the table in 30 minutes after subbing or brown the meat in the skillet and throw it in the crockpot before leaving for work. Another reason it keeps appearing on the table is because it's so delicious! There's something about the brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce that flavors the ground beef just right. My boys love it when served with chips and green beans. I used to make it with ground turkey, but it just didn't taste right, and by right, I mean tastes like mom's.

For years we would look forward to driving North to visit with family and enjoy mom's sloppy joes and potato salad. The boys knew grandma had special treats planned as well as their favorite meal. When I began making it myself a couple years ago as part of my dinner table makeover, it felt good knowing I was serving up family tradition and nutrition. This recipe was inspired by my mom and costs very little to make. I’d love to know which dinner you bring to the table that was inspired by your mom’s good cooking.

For now, here's the rest of the menu
